Capt. Shorty Smith grew up in South Texas fishing the waters along the Gulf Coast.  He acquired his love for fishing and hunting at a very young age and frequenty fished the Coastal Bend areas as he continued to refine his technique in finding the "big fish".  He developed his fishing passion into a specialty and after numerous years of experience, became a full time licensed fishing guide.  Shorty now enjoys sharing the "fishing experience" with many pleased customers.

He is known for his expertise in using both artificial lures and bait, and his ability to adapt to changing conditions when the need arises. In the winter and spring, he might wade fish from daylight to dark to bring in a trophy trout or cruise the back lakes in his airboat to find that large school of redfish.  In the summer and fall, he might anchor on shell reefs and fish with Croaker and Piggies, looking for that nice limit of trout and reds.

All trips with Captain Smith are custom designed to meet your expectations and skill level, from novices who are hungry to learn the art of lure fishing to old salts wanting to beat their personal bests.  For those who have never fished shallow water out of an airboat, Shorty can provide you an experience you will never forget.  He loves fishing with families, and can customize a trip especially for women and/or kids that keeps in mind what is important for first time anglers.

Whatever your objective is, beginner or expert, a trip with Smith Guide Service will send you home with more than just fillets.
